Causes

DIABETES

26 million people in the US now have diabetes and that number is growing. Close to 2 million new cases were diagnosed in 2010. Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates that are 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes. Children as young as 8 years old are being diagnosed with Type II diabetes, a disease that can be avoided or mitigated with proper diet and exercise.

At East Bay United we have embraced diabetes prevention as one of our core causes. “We play for a reason.” One of the key reasons is to support diabetes research and healthy lifestyles that help people of all ages to avoid the ravages of diabetes.

OBESITY

Obesity is now the number 2 cause of preventable deaths in the country. 69 million Americans are now classified as obese. Being overweight or obese dramatically increases the risk of health problems and disease including coronary heart disease, hypertension, colon cancer, stroke, and Type II diabetes, among others.

At East Bay United we have embraced obesity prevention as one of our core causes. “We play for a reason.” One of the key reasons we play is to support healthy lifestyles that help people of all ages to avoid the diseases and conditions caused by obesity. We also recognize the direct link between obesity and the onset of Type II diabetes.
