Three Ways East Bay United Is Making A Difference

DSAL Partnership
Through the Deputy Sheriffs Activities League of Alameda County, East Bay United has launched a basketball program to serve the children in the East Oakland and San Lorenzo areas. Many of these children have never participated in an organized sports program before. Some have weight and body image issues, but every player knows he or she is a valued member of their team, and every player is getting better as students, as players and as individuals. The program has recently been expanded to include middle school students in the San Lorenzo area. More to come soon!

EBU Coach Honored
Coach, mentor, tutor and role model Abayomi Nagee was honored but the City of Berkeley for his outstanding work with the Berkeley Technology Academy Boys Basketball team. AB took a group of young men with failing grades and turned them into a championship basketball team with a solid school attendance record and a GPA of 2.7.

Girl Talk
Girl Talk is a small group peer-to-peer program for pre-adolescent and adolescent girls. Currently running in two locations, Girl Talk provides a safe place for girls to talk about school, relationships, body images and setting goals.

Why We Play

The East Bay United mission is to use the medium of sport to promote healthy living, educational success and prevention of violence within the communities we serve.

East Bay United (EBU) works across a wide variety sports and fitness activities to: unify the communities we serve; create ongoing dialog leading to healthier, more cohesive family and community life; and encourage volunteerism.

Our Vision

Our vision is an East Bay Area where healthy living and violence prevention are community priorities. To realize this vision, EBU is committed to providing resources, inspiration and a road map to lead the way. We see sport as an entry point to these priorities.

Panthers AAU Basketball Program in the Spotlight

The Panthers are on the move. What began as a solitary AAU team has now grown to 5 teams covering ages from 5th to 10th grade. Players come from all over but the majority of players generally hail from Oakland and Berkeley. Although the Panthers have had lots of success and won tournaments all over Northern California, we still focus on skill development and learning to play within a team environment. Here is a video recap of the team structure, goals and successes. along with some game footage so you can see the interaction between EBU coaches and our players.
